Exactly - so then they would not be able to vote until they study and understand civics and understand why the Constitution was supposed to protect us from devolving into a pure democracy.
We need an educated electorate to vote and that might be those who cherish freedom, like those who worked hard to be legal immigrants, assimilate and study to learn and pass the citizenship test.
But, we also need quality candidates who have worked in the private sector and do not live in the government, like Joe Biden, Schumer and the rest.
It’s a big ask…but how many patriots were afraid to fight the mighty British military in 1776 and clearly the British held all the cards…except the passion for freedom.
I disagree, but I also believe in God, thus, believing that anything is possible, which
correlates to the Tytler cycle that spiritually creates the courage to fight for liberty.
According to John Adams’s writings, about 1/3 of Americans were patriots for the Cause, about 1/3 Americans were fence sitters and the 1/3 were loyalists to King George. That matches up to Solomon Asch’s Conformity Experiment where over 60% are afraid to buck the system and only 10-30% are courageous and unafraid to speak up. 1/3 of the people transformed how it turned out. But adhering to the principals of democracy (that the people know what is best) is ultimately the loser.
America became a successful country as a result of being a meritocracy and with a little help from the Constitution. 1913 was a bad year for America with the 16th and 17th Amendments and the Federal Reserve Act creating the banking cartel to control the economy.
Dallas Voters: you must be very proud-The Libs of TikTok account posted, “INCREDIBLE. Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett publicly admits that she only got her job as a public defender because she was Black. Crockett is a DEI hire, CONFIRMED.” U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, made remarks during a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Wednesday that have ignited a debate about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Yes, we were set up as a constitutional republic to protect us from being a pure democracy (51% rule over the 49%) but if we ignore our constitution, then we devolve into a democracy - so we have an ignorant electorate voting for free stuff - which we clearly have now - hence the point of this article.
Glad I asked and glad you know. It seems most do not understand the difference and it is a huge difference. I pledge Allegience to the Republic for which I have never known, but hope to see restored.
For years, I too was one of those “we’re a constitutional republic, not a democracy, damn it” but as I tried to understand the argument better, I realized if we no longer follow the Constitution and we crumbled it up in 1913 (16th Amendment, 17th Amendment), allowing the Federal Reserve Act to pass so that a corrupt bunch of men in a banking cartel can rule over us) and so as more and more ignorant people vote for free stuff that corrupt politicians promise, then we are no different than a corrupt, spiritually vacuous democracy that will eventually lead us to tyranny.
Which is the real 3d rail of Politics: Social Security, Protection Tariffs, Income Tax Adjustments, Federal Personnel Reduction? There’s a strong argument for Term Limits. I doubt the founding fathers envisioned Congress as a lifelong job. Especially a job that allows ordinary peeps to become millionaires. How many votes would there be in Congress to close K street?
" the fact that we allow ignorant people who live off welfare to vote for you and me to pay for them to live on the dole is quite maddening!"
Yes!!! I have been saying that for years (In England). It is madness. I think only taxpayers should be able to vote.
Thing is, the franchise was extended in the early 20th century BEFORE the welfare state was created. At the beginning of the 20th century, nobody lived on state largesse; those who did fall on hard times had to turn to their communities, the church and charities for sustenance. I'm not saying we should return to that, but for heaven's sake, surely he who pays the piper, calls the tune, no?
And the US spends over a trillion a year for welfare; that’s low-hanging fruit to reduce government spending, especially in the land of opportunity. If we bring back manufacturing, there should be lots of jobs to fill.
Indeed - so jealous of your White House governance at the moment.
Point being of course that as Margaret Thatcher famously said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
I always say, as a corollary, that nobody is a socialist with their OWN money. It's easy to spend other people's money. So, only allow taxpayers to vote and bingo! Far fewer socialists. In addition, if taxes raised locally were spent locally, then there would be a lot more disinclination to fund the indolent and a lot more scrutiny on expenditure.
I also think there should be term limits for politicians and their bank accounts should be audited as a matter of course. Common sense - especially as we no longer live in high trust, moral societies.
How so? Trump started out with one million dollars from his father and grew it to about 5 billion dollars in the private sector, creating many jobs, and did not enter politics until age 69 in 2015. I would call that success in the private sector.
Neither the Left nor the Right voters could pass the citizenship test.

What is the difference between a Republic and a democracy? We are not a democracy, btw.

Candidates should be required to pass a test proving proving they are ethical. Tsk tsk.
