I absolutely loved the schoolhouse rock series when I was a kid. It was educational and it really did teach a lot. In 11th grade, we had to write out the preamble of the constitution as a test. How do you think I remembered it word for word? Because of that one little episode of Schoolhouse Rock and I can still recite it to this day. Perhaps if they would put that on television, our kids might learn something. Guaranteed they would learn more than they’re learning in our public schools. Thanks for the article was great

Thanks and ditto! We bought the videos for our 2 kids in the aughts and I’d hear them singing…I’m just a bill, yes I’m only a bill….or conjunction junction, what’s my function…

who has time for learning about the Constitution, when there are pronouns to discuss?

Excellent assessment Liz.

Over the past 250 years our representatives in DC have slowly subverted the Constitution one bill/act/proclamation at a time, and now it is all most useless. They've delegated to the executive branch powers specifically reserved to congress (ie: power to declare war, tariffs, etc.), they ignore clearly defined restrictions on the federal government (ie: only gold and silver can be use as a payment for debts, etc.). All these powers delegated to the executive branch gives the president King like authority.

The entire political class has turned into the USA’s aristocracy. Congress granted themselves powers and privileges unavailable to their constituents; 80% pensions after only five years service, special law enforcement protection, exempt from insider trading, and so much more.

It’s time for a REBELLION!! We patriots must become ungovernable.

Thanks! So true. Yes, this is our 1775 moment and we have Thomas Jefferson's permission to rebel against tyranny. But, I see way too many people taking their "soma" to cope and how can we fight tyranny with too many people spaced out? Huxley saw this coming...

Perhaps we should reconsider Kings. There were good kings and bad, the same can be said for Czars, Emperors, and Caesars; just like Kings, some nominal democracies are a lot better than others.

When I was in high school, over a half century ago, we had a class called P.O.D. (Problems Of Democracy), and since then, Free Market Liberalism has worked its magic, but Democracy is, if anything, more problematic than ever.

Good marketing is to sell you this, rather than that, and leave you with the feeling that you have made a good choice - and not to think too hard about it, so you’ll buy another.

Good point and democracies never last forever. Wow- P.O.D - that would have been a very interesting class for kids to take, I guess introducing ideas from Jefferson, Tocqueville, Tytler, et. al., and understand how fragile a democracy really is.

In my 9th Grade 1982 Civics class we also had to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution which was done very easily because of the SchoolHouse America Rock song on Saturday mornings! Think of the 1976 geniuses who were able to teach us in elementary school using catchy songs and cartoons such valuable lessons that they stuck with us to adulthood!

I read this very early this morning, and didn't have the time to thank you and comment. I officially retired from the FL DOE after twenty-six years as a public school teacher/ literacy coach in 2020. Prior to that I was a flight attendant for fourteen years. I worked for Delta Air Lines. Talk about two careers that have changed for the worse, over the decades! I still work two mornings a week in the permit department for a large AC company.

I was at the office at 7:00AM this morning.

I guess it's the WASP/(C) work ethic in me. White Anglo-Saxon, Catholic. I can't be too annoyed with kings, especially George III. I am an American because of an original land grant from the man. My father's people settled in Maryland, but fought in the American Revolution, and the rest is history. I certainly don't want to squander my American Inheritance! Did I mention that I love your work. Thank you for all you do!

Thank you!!😊 Congratulations on being retired and then hopefully going to “fun” part-time but sounds like work was fun anyway. I think that’s the secret to retirement - never actually retiring. I can see the light - only 3-4 years before I retire and go to fun part-time!

You are right! DJT can be a spendthrift. I'm hoping the senate corrects that in the BBB. We shall see.
